Aircrafts and Airliners

FIGHTER AIRCRAFTS

Fighter aircrafts are made especially for air-to-air combat with other air crafts. They are small and fast. Many of them have ground attack capabilities. Fighters were developed in World War I for ground attacks. They were very small lightly armed by present standards. Modern fighters are usually powered by one or two turbo jet engines. They are equipped by radar and primary target acquisition. They are armed with two or twelve air to air missiles and air to surface missiles which can be guided or unguided .They also have cannon as back up of about 20 to30 calibers .Modern ground hugging planes have computer radar system which flies the plane steady height over hills and valleys .The world’s fastest fighter jet is MiG-25 which has been tracked flying over 3000km/h.

AIRLINERS

Air liner is a large fixed wing aircraft for transporting passengers and goods around the world. All modern airliners are powered by turbofans and small air liners by turboprops. The under carriage of airliners consists of wheels upon which the aero plane moves on the ground. Most high speed planes bring up the wheels into the wings after take-off. Boeing 247 of 1933 was the world’s first modern airliner with smooth monoplane wings streamlined metal body and wheels which could be brought up after take-off. The air travel really began with the American Boeing 707 and Douglas DC-8 of the late 1950s .Modern airliners usually has wing designs with engines under wings. Advantage of attaching engines under is that it makes it easier for maintenance quicker to fix than the air crafts which have engines at their tails like most of the fighter jets.
