Compounds and Mixtures

Compounds
Two or more substances which are chemically combined together are called compounds.They are combined by chemical reactions and also broken by chemical reactions.Compounds have following properties;

  • Compounds are only formed by chemical reaction and during chemical reaction there is exchange of energy.
  •   They can be broken into more simpler substances by chemical reactions.
  • They have properties which are different from constituent elements.
  • The different elements  in a compound  are joined together in fix proportion by mass.
Mixture
Two or more substances which are physically combined together are known as mixtures.Mixtures can be separated by filtration,distillation and evaporation.The properties of mixtures are as follows;

  • They are combined physically.
  • They can be separated by distillation,filtration and evaporation.
  • They can combine in any proportion by mass.
  • They are not pure substances.
  • They do not have fix melting or boiling point.
